Un equipo de investigadores de la Universidade de Santiago (USC) ha creado un nuevo método para estimar el momento aproximado de la muerte a partir del análisis de algunas sustancias del humor vÃtreo de los cadáveres.
Con este sistema los cientÃficos han desarrollado un software que permite determinar de forma precisa el intervalo post mortem (IPM), un dato que facilitará la labor de la policÃa y de los tribunales de justicia.
Para aplicar esta técnica los investigadores comienzan analizando las concentraciones de potasio, urea e hipoxantina (un metabolito del ADN) presentes en el humor vÃtreo del ojo del cadáver, e introducen las cifras en un programa informático. El software ideado por los cientÃficos de al USC es capaz de establecer con esa información el instante en el que se produjo la muerte.
"Las ecuaciones que hemos desarrollado permiten estimar de forma más precisa que hasta ahora el IPM, y ofrece a los patólogos forenses una herramienta útil, accesible y de sencillo manejo", explicó uno de los autores del estudio, José Ignacio Muñoz Barús, médico especialista del Instituto de Medicina Legal de la Universidade de Santiago de Compostela.
