Investigadores del Instituto de TecnologÃa de Massachussets (MIT) han realizado avances en la comprensión de cómo nuestros cerebros identifican qué es y qué no es una cara.
Según las conclusiones del equipo de neurocientÃficos liderado por Pawan Sinha, el hemisferio izquierdo harÃa una primera criba de cosas con apariencia de rostro y el hemisferio derecho determinarÃa qué es simple apariencia (como una nube o un conjunto de piedras) y qué es realidad.
"El cerebro es capaz de ver qué parece una cara y, al mismo tiempo, no dejarse engañar y pensar que es un cara auténtica", apunta Sinha.
La distribución de tareas entre hemisferios se da también en otras funciones cerebrales, entre ellas el lenguaje y el reconocimiento espacial.
En este caso, los investigadores mostraron a los participantes imágenes de objetos que parecÃan rostros y de rostros reales y descubrieron que la actividad cerebral en los dos hemisferios era diferente según el grado de similitud.
